Concrete Backyards in Orange, CA
We pour full backyard concrete for your home: sitting areas, paths, pads and the edges between them, planned as one layout with proper drainage. One person handles your questions, the schedule and the crew from the first visit through cleanup, so you always know who to ask.
One plan for the whole yard
A concrete backyard is more than one big slab. It usually ties together a place to sit, a path to the side gate, maybe a pad for a shed or trash bins, and the edges where planters or a strip of lawn stay. When all of that is designed and poured together, the slopes line up, water heads where it should and the joint lines fall in sensible places.
It is the right call when you want less yard to water and mow, when dirt keeps getting tracked into your home, or when a few old pours from different decades no longer fit together. If you only need one area, our Patios or Walkways and Sidewalks pages may be a closer match.
From the first visit on, you talk to one person. The same contact who measures your yard answers your calls, sets the pour date and walks the finished work with you.
What your backyard project includes
- Layout and grade planning
- We measure the yard, mark where each area goes and set the slope so water runs away from your home's foundation. You see the layout on the ground before any digging starts.
- Demolition and haul-off
- Old concrete, brick borders, sod and roots come out and leave the property. We dig to the depth the new slab and its base need.
- Base and reinforcement
- A compacted gravel base goes down first, then steel rebar or mesh set on supports so it sits inside the slab instead of on the dirt. Clay soil is common in the area, and a solid base is what keeps a large slab from shifting as that soil swells and shrinks.
- Forms, joints and drains
- Forms set straight edges and curves. We lay out control joints so the concrete has a planned place to crack, and we can add area drains or a channel drain where water tends to collect.
- Finish choices
- A broom finish gives grip around doors and walkways, and a smoother trowel finish suits seating areas. If you want a pattern or color, our Stamped Concrete page covers those options.
- Cleanup and walk-through
- We clear forms, debris and washout, then walk the yard with you so you know how to care for the new concrete.
Signs your backyard is ready for concrete
Water sits near the house
If puddles linger against the back wall after a winter storm, the grade is working against you. New concrete lets us set the slope correctly from the start.
A lawn that never makes it
Grass that browns every summer and turns to mud every winter costs water and weekends. Concrete with a few planting beds keeps the yard usable all year.
Old slabs at different heights
Pieces poured at different times often leave lips you can trip on and spots where water runs the wrong way. Replacing them as one plan levels everything out.
No clean route to the side gate
If you push trash bins or a mower through dirt and gravel, a continuous path saves effort every week.
Plans for a grill or outdoor furniture
Heavy furniture, a built-in grill or a spa needs a level, reinforced surface. Planning those spots now avoids cutting into new concrete later.
How a backyard project runs
- 1
Visit and written quote
We come out, measure, ask how you use the yard and check access through your gates. You get a written, line-item quote and the name and number of the one person running your job.
- 2
Prep and demolition
Depending on size, demo usually takes a day or two. We protect fences, walls and plants you are keeping, and we keep a safe path open for your family.
- 3
Forms and a layout check
Before the pour, your contact walks you through the forms so you can see edges, slopes and joint lines. Changes are simple at this stage and hard once concrete is in.
- 4
Pour day
The truck delivers, and if it cannot reach the backyard we bring in a pump. The crew places, levels, finishes and cuts joints the same day, and in summer heat we start early so the concrete does not set too fast.
- 5
Curing and final walk
Plan to stay off the surface for about a day and keep heavy furniture off for about a week. We clean up, haul everything away and walk the finished yard with you.

What moves the price of a concrete backyard
Every backyard prices differently, so we quote after seeing yours. Each part of the job gets its own line on the quote. That way you can see where the money goes and trim or add areas before anything is scheduled.
- Size and shape
- Square footage drives material and labor. Curves, steps between levels and lots of corners add forming time.
- Access to the backyard
- A wide gate lets equipment roll in. A narrow side yard may mean a concrete pump or more hand work.
- What has to come out
- Removing thick old concrete, brick or large roots takes more time and more haul-off than clearing lawn.
- Soil and drainage work
- Soft or clay-heavy ground may need a deeper base, and drains add pipe and trenching.
- Finish and permits
- A broom finish is the simplest, while color or stamping adds steps. If the city requires a permit for grading or drainage, we pull it and include it on your quote.
Backyard concrete questions
Something not covered here? (714) 410-5411
Do I have to pour the whole yard at once?
No. Some people do it in phases to spread out the cost. Pouring it all together gives you matching color and finish, but if you phase it, we plan the layout and joints so the later section ties in cleanly.
Will a concrete backyard get too hot to walk on?
Concrete does warm up in summer sun. A lighter color and a broom finish stay cooler than dark or slick surfaces, and leaving room for planters or a shade structure helps. We talk through these choices at the visit.
Will the concrete crack?
Concrete can crack, and we would rather be honest about that. A compacted base, steel reinforcement, well-placed control joints and proper curing keep cracks small and steer them into the joint lines where they are hard to see.
Can you get equipment into my backyard?
Usually, yes. We check gate widths and side yard access during the visit. When a truck cannot get close, a pump carries concrete over or around the house without driving across your landscaping.
Who do I call once the job starts?
The same person who gave you the quote. They schedule the crew, answer questions during demo and pour day, and handle the final walk-through, so you never have to explain your project twice.
